Taking care of your teak chair is simple. If you like the beautiful gray oxidized look, you won’t need to do much. If the golden honey color is what you are wanting to showcase, then here are some steps to keep that gorgeous honey surface. Washing your chair with mild soap and water will remove any surface dirt or dust. Let the chair dry for 12-24 hours. If you are looking to get rid of the gray color that appears after time due to oxidation, you will need to lightly sand down the chair.
Once a year, your indoor wicker chairs will have to undergo a thorough cleaning. Take them outside and wash completely. As usual, use mild soap and a soft brush. Rinse by spraying water using a garden hose. After that, you will have to dry them quickly so they don’t absorb the water. Expose them to the sun or if not use a dryer or a fan for drying.
For instance, something like cedar will only need to be oiled about once a year. Some woods, especially the teak hardwood, requires almost no maintenance because it makes its own oils which function as well as, or better than, synthetic oils. The risk of over-oiling is the accumulation of unsightly black buildup.
